T. S. Eliot famously wrote that "April is the cruellest month." It's also Poetry Month. In celebration, we've asked our librarians, staff, and student assistants to tell us about their favourite poems. You can see their picks in our book display case. We've got Beowulf & Berry, Dylan Thomas & Dennis Lee, Kipling & Emily D.
We've also launched a "Name That Poet" contest. Questions include "Who wrote 'April is the cruellest month'?" (a giveaway if you've read this post!). Pick up a question sheet in the Main or Music Libraries. We'll draw for the winner on the last day of exams, April 21. The poetry prize pack includes:
(1) a magnetic poetry kit; (2) a book light for reading in caves; (3) a glass-bead bookmark that will double as a gift to your Aunt Mildred; (4) the book 642 Things to Write About by the San Francisco Writers’ Grotto; and (5) two chocolate eggs (to hatch ideas)
Happy Poetry Month! We also encourage you to contribute to our POETree -- it's sprouting green leaves with white sides just waiting for some inspired verse.
Congratulations to Danielle Richard, winner of our Name that Poet! contest. Danielle scored 10/10 and also aced the extra-tough bonus question:
Q: 7 Mondays is a creative writing journal published at Mount Allison. Who composed a set of cabaret songs to poems from that journal?
