Governments generate vast quantities of information every day -- in fact, the federal government is the largest publisher in Canada. But this public information is only the tip of the iceberg. What about the masses of unpublished government information, from data on water quality and health care, to reports and briefing notes? How can citizens get access to these unpublished records?
Librarians as Government Information Activists is a presentation prepared by librarians Anita Cannon and Laura Landon for the Atlantic Provinces Library Association conference in Fredericton in June, 2018. It provides a snapshot of the state of Freedom of Information (FOI) federally and in Atlantic Canada, with information on how to file a freedom-of-information request.
The presentation aims to heighten people's awareness about the importance of government information, and to inspire them to use access-to-information legislation to get more.
The full presentation is on Anita Cannon's Government Information Subject Guide, or you can link directly to the PowerPoint slides here.
