Search for New University Librarian underway

by Laura Landon on 2021-12-21T17:26:00-04:00 | 0 Comments

KBRS logoAs University Librarian Dianne Keeping leaves our Libraries & Archives to prepare for her new role as Dean of Libraries at Memorial University, Mount Allison has begun its search for a new University Librarian.

"I'd be lying if I said it has been an easy two years at Mount Allison," laughs Dr. Keeping, who experienced a faculty strike, the launch of a new, library-wide computer system, and a pandemic during her tenure as UL. "But the University community and the Library's skilled and supportive staff and librarians made my time at Mount Allison far easier. I will miss you!"

On January 10, Dr. Keeping will begin a five-year term at Memorial, where she worked for 11 years as Metadata/Cataloguing Librarian and as a Collection Development Librarian, with terms as division head.

"In many ways, I am going home," said Dr. Keeping, who is originally from Port aux Basques.

With Dr. Keeping's departure, the University has formed a search committee for the next University Librarian, hiring the recruitment and consulting firm KBRS to assist with the search. The committee and KBRS invite comments about what qualities the next University Librarian should possess, and will also accept nominations or suggestions of potential candidates. People can send comments to consultant Andrea Forbes-Hurley at 1-866-822-6022 or at aforbeshurley@kbrs.ca. KBRS will keep all information confidential and will not disclose the identity of those who submit comments.

The Library's Laura Landon, who has worked in a variety of librarian and administrative roles at Mount Allison since 2013, will serve as Interim University Librarian while the search is underway.

"Mount Allison has a fabulous library and a strong academic collection that makes it well respected in the region and the country," said Dr. Keeping. "The next University Librarian will get to lead the Libraries & Archives through the renovation process to strengthen library services and revitalize our facilities."
