Renowned Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg author, musician, and scholar Leanne Betasamosake Simpson will speak as part of Mount Allison's 2021-22 Faculty of Arts Speakers Series. The online event, hosted on Eventbrite at 7 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 17, is open to all.
Simpson is the author of seven books, including Noopiming: The Cure for White Ladies, which was shortlisted for the Governor General's Award for fiction, and was listed among the Globe & Mail's best books of 2020. Simpson will read from this book at the Nov. 17 event.
Leanne Betasamosake Simpson holds a PhD from the University of Manitoba, and has taught and lectured extensively across Canada and the U.S. She teaches at the Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning based in Yellowknife, which provides university accredited programs with a mandate to serve Indigenous people.
Her biography lists her as "one of the most compelling Indigenous voices of her generation. Her work breaks open the intersections between politics, story and song—bringing audiences into a rich and layered world of sound, light, and sovereign creativity."
