About the Mount Allison Remembers Project

This project began in the summer of 2013 when Mount Allison University Archivist David Mawhinney and Associate Librarian Elizabeth Millar started planning ways to commemorate the contributions of Allisonians to the First World War. Our aim is to include information from the Univerity's Archives that is not readily available elsewhere, such as affiliation with Mount Allison institutions, notes and articles from The Argosy, the Mount Allison Record, and annual academic calendars, as well as letters from family members.

We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to wartime Professor of Chemistry and Dean of Students, Dr. Harold E. Bigelow (Class of 1903), for the work he did to keep track of serving Allisonians, and in contacting soldiers' families to get more complete information for his records. We would also like to acknowledge the work of Steven Black (Class of 2015) in creating a spreadsheet with information from attestation papers and Dr. Bigelow's index cards and correspondence.

Given the volume of information available this web site is very much a work in progress. Please return often, as additional material will be posted as it becomes available. In the meantime, we welcome comments, suggestions, and especially any family stories and photographs you might have.  Please contact us at:  archives@mta.ca.
