This is a selected chronology of important dates and events in the life of Professor William Morley Tweedie.
Born on 14 October 1862 in River John, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.
Enters the Mount Allison Academy.
Receives a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University and delivers the valedictory address at the 7 June 1882 convocation exercises. In September Tweedie is alerted by Dr. A.D. Smith that he has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious Gilchrist Scholarship. This earns him a matriculation from the University College London. Tweedie travels to England to begin further studies at the University College London.
Receives a Bachelor of Arts with first class English from the University College London.
Undertakes studies at Heidelberg in Germany, where he remains until 1887.

Receives a Master of Arts from the University College London and returns to Mount Allison as a professor of modern languages.
1888
Becomes Chair of the English language and literature department and introduces an honours curriculum for students in English.
Travels to Europe for a bicycle trip through England and Scotland with Dr. and Mrs. Dobson.
Takes a leave of absence from Mount Allison and commences further studies at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
His father Rev. William Tweedie dies in Hampton, New Brunswick, on 3 April 1903.

His mother Dorcas Dykeman (Calkin) Tweedie dies on 4 February 1909.

Retires from Mount Allison University after 50 years of teaching. He is subsequently honored for his service to the University with an honorary degree (LL.D.), bestowed upon him at the Spring Convocation.
His sister Nettie Eliza Hayward (Tweedie) Beer dies on 3 March 1948 in Toronto, Ontario. Tweedie takes part in the laying of the cornerstone of the new University Men's Residence, Trueman House, on 22 May 1948.
Dr. Tweedie sits for his portrait painted by Lawren Harris, Jr., as a gift from the Alumni Society to the Memorial Library.
Dr. Tweedie dies at his home in Sackville, New Brunswick, on 16 November 1951. His elder sister, Leora Rebecca Tweedie, dies only a month later, on 19 December 1951.
