Starting September 8, students, faculty and staff will be able to book time in the library through our new Book a Seat space-booking software.
The booking system enables people to book seats at tables or computers on three floors in the R.P. Bell Library and in the Music Library. Study rooms on the ground floor of the R.P. Bell are also bookable.
Phase one of the Libraries & Archives' plan involves opening the Main, Ground and Basement floors of the R.P. Bell Library, in addition to the Music Library. The stacks will remain closed. Patrons can contact librarians or staff to retrieve books, which will be available for pick-up just inside the library (in the former new-book-display area). Music materials will be available in the Music Library.
Librarians and staff have been working throughout the summer to ensure seats meet recommended physical distancing requirements of two metres. In total, the main library will have 92 seats available including seats at computers. Rooms G7, G11, and Abbey Road Sides A & B on the ground level will accommodate up to eight additional people. The Music Library will have 14 spaces available.
Spaces will be bookable up to one week in advance. Multiple bookings on the same day are permitted. Both libraries will require people to check in to their spaces and to provide contact-tracing information, which will be kept for up to one month and then destroyed, to protect privacy.
"Curbside" pick-up for library materials has been running successfully from the R.P. Bell Library lobby since mid-June. This service will expand to allow pick-up at the Music Library. People can request books by e-mailing circ@mta.ca, placing a hold in the Novanet catalogue, or using our web request form.
