A fonds level description provides an overview of the totality of the records in an individual’s papers. It identifies the provenance, extent of the records, photographs and objects as well as details that help a researcher determine if the papers will fit with their specific research interest.

Scope and content:

Fonds consists of personal correspondence, lecture and related research notes and notebooks on Russia, Spain during the Civil War, and Eastern Europe as well as promotional materials and newspaper clippings, pamphlets, photographs, postcards, diplomas and certificates. The contents of the fonds document Ella Smith’s interest in current affairs and history.

Immediate source of acquisition:

Donated by her sister, Mrs. Helen Skinner, on 6 April 1973 with an accrual from the President’s Office at Mount Allison University on 10 May 1973.
