The Canadian music community at large lost one of it's most famous figures on August 14th, 2021: R. Murray Schafer. A prolific composer and writer, Schafer's work had an indelible mark on the Canadian music landscape during his life as well as raising the stature of Canadian music and composition on an international level. Beyond composition, Schafer wrote numerous texts on Canadian music and music education as well as being a founding thinker in the field of acoustic ecology.
