Harold Frank Russell was from Pictou, Nova Scotia. He entered Mount Allison in the fall of 1950 after having obtained a Business Administration Certificate from Pictou Academy. He earned his certificate in Finance and Commerce in 1953, and a year later became the first graduate of the new Bachelor of Commerce degree at Mount Allison University. While in attendance, he served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Student Finance (1953-1954), and was involved in Mock Parliament, representing the Conservative Party at the convention in Ottawa. He was also active in sports and played Varsity football and hockey as well as intramural hockey, coached the Junior Varsity football team, and was a member of the Men's Athletic Committee.
