The collection of glass mounted slides was something that appears to have been amassed over a number of years with considerable acquisition during the 1969 to 1973 time period. Correspondence in the Crake papers documents the acquisition of the items from the Archaeological Institute of America in New York, Herbert E. Budek Film and Slides, Avid Corporation and La Centrale audio-visuelle Inc. in Montreal.
The slides were purchased as part of the Classics Department’s book allocation in the Ralph Pickard Bell Library and formed the core of a very small collection. However, the inconvenience of administering the collection became problematic and the slides went on permanent loan to the Classics Department for class instruction.
The Classics Department returned the slides to the Mount Allison Libraries and Archives in 2002 when they were repatriated with the J.E.A. Crake fonds.
