MUSC 1201: Introduction to Western Art Music History

Finding resources: Recordings

Listening to great music is an important part of your musical education!

As part of your MUSC 1201 assignment you will need to find and evaluate some sound recordings related to your paper topic. The library has lots of online and physical recordings to help you!

Streaming Audio

Naxos Music Library

The Naxos Music Library is our primary audio streaming service available through the library. It features over 2.5 million tracks of classical music so if you are looking for something, there is a good chance it is available here! You can access it through our A-Z Database List or with the link above and listen in your web browser or you can download the NML app for your smartphone to listen on the go!

The Library's subscription to Naxos has a limited number of simultaneous users, so once you are done listening, please log out to avoid blocking other users from accessing the database.

Curious about our other audio & video streaming services? See a full list here on the Music Library page!

CDs, DVDs & LPs in the Music Library

The Music Library has a large collection of about 3,500 CDs, several hundred DVDs, and around 4,000 LP records. While streaming audio is fast and convenient, our physical collection is helpful to search to find items which may not be available online or are older or rarer recordings.

The Music Library has a listening station where you can listen to all of our physical recording formats and features a USB turntable to digitize our LPs so you can take them on-the-go! Click here to learn more about our A/V equipment available to you!

Looking for student collegium or recital recordings, including your own? We have them in the Music Library! Ask us at the circulation desk if you would like to listen to or borrow one.

You can search for our physical recordings using Novanet! Use the arrows below to click through each step in the process!

From the Library homepage, click the Advanced Search link below the Novanet search box.
