Reciprocal Library Borrowing: CAAL Card (formerly CAUL Card)
Planning an in-person research visit to a Canadian university library? MtA staff, student, or faculty can get direct borrowing privileges for participating libraries with a Council of Atlantic Academic Libraries (CAAL) card (Note - this was formerly called the Council of Atlantic University Libraries [CAUL] card).
Your MtA card gives you direct borrowing privileges at Novanet libraries
- Get the free CAUL card by contacting MtA Libraries
- Present your CAUL card and ID to staff at the visited library. They will create your library account and may give you an institution-specific library card
- Loan periods and policies vary by institution; check with them for what can be borrowed and for how long
- Some libraries exclude undergrad students from reciprocal borrowing. See exceptions noted on the list of participating libraries by province
- University of Toronto is listed as a member however they have fees for all visitor library cards.
- CAUL cards expire August 31 each year; renew the card with Access Services LINK
