The Allison Gardens ice rink opened in 1948. It was located on Lansdowne Street, behind the present Athletic Centre. It had an official seating capacity of 1,500 and included a two-storey brick wing containing a public lounge and bandstand on the upper level, and entrances, offices, washrooms, another lounge, and a snack bar on the main floor. It underwent reconstruction in 1971-1972. More offices were constructed, new automatic ice-making equipment was installed, and the ice surface was enlarged by taking away bleachers along one end. It reopened in 1973.
The building was demolished in 2003 and replaced by the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre.
