The President's Cottage was built in 1857 and served as the home of Mount Allison presidents until 1957. Originally built as a 1 1/2 story structure, in 1903 it was enlarged to 2 1/2 storeys and bay windows were added on the south eastern side. For a brief period of time in 1958 and again in 1977, it served as a university women's residence.
In 1967 restoration of the house became Canada's Centennial Project on campus, and a commemorative plaque was unveiled on Founder's Day, October 19, 1967. R. J. Hickey, who was also responsible for the restoration of the house, lived there with his family from 1965-1977.
In 1980 the University Club started a dining room on the main floor, which remains in operation today.
